Couple Joana Boukhabza and Eric Bournot, from Marseille, France, are the bloggers behind DesFenetresSurLeMonde.com where they share their most beautiful photos and travel tips. They have been exploring the world since 2015, and their passion for photography weaves a common thread throughout their adventures.
They recently tested Tamron’s latest travel lens, the 28-300mm F/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD, shooting breathtaking landscapes in Central America. Let’s hear about their experience!

What role does photography play in your travels?
Photography has always been a genuine shared passion for us. When we hit the road in 2015, it quickly became part of our daily lives, starting to capture memories and gradually evolving into a key part of our professional journey.
Photography lies at the core of our travels. It’s not just about capturing a moment, but about immersing ourselves in it fully, taking the time to appreciate and reflect on our surroundings. For us, photography is both a way to document our journey and a means to experience it more deeply.
How do you choose which moments to immortalize?
Above all, we love capturing authentic moments. So, we try not to limit ourselves to “perfect” shots because we’re in a new place every day, and often, waiting for ideal conditions just isn’t an option—like perfect weather, for instance. So, we focus on capturing the genuine over the flawless.
That said, the challenge of traveling is that you often want to capture everything. You really must pause and observe before you shoot. But sometimes, spontaneity works in your favor—except when our hard drives fill up way too fast!
What iconic photos have you taken with this lens, and what role did it play in their composition?
The first one that pops into mind is a majestic sunset on the Chimborazo volcano. With the Tamron 28-300mm, we were able to capture the vast beauty of the scene, while also zooming in to capture the details at the summit—all while experimenting with the shifting light.

On the Mindo side, we had the chance to experience a truly unique moment surrounded by dozens of hummingbirds. The photos we captured that day are among the most striking and beautiful shots we’ve taken with this lens.
The 28-300mm allowed us to get close enough to capture the vibrant details of these incredible birds, all while keeping the background beautifully blurred to emphasize their energy. Hummingbirds are undoubtedly among the most dynamic creatures in the world, so you must be incredibly quick and responsive to capture a shot while they’re in full flight or even when they land—if only for a few seconds. It’s tough to predict exactly how far away they’ll be, but the impressive zoom range of this lens helps to offset that uncertainty. With its stabilization and ultra-fast autofocus, the success rate for photos in these conditions is unprecedented.

How has this lens adapted to your needs as backpackers?
We often travel light, carrying only our cameras, a compact tripod, and occasionally a drone. This new lens gave us the versatility to shoot both wide-angle landscapes and detailed close-ups, allowing us to reduce our gear and pack more efficiently.
Ecuador has such a varied landscape, with everything from rainforests to snow-capped peaks. The 28-300mm allowed us to quickly switch from capturing spectacular panoramas to more distant details or photographing wildlife. The fast and precise autofocus ensured we didn’t miss a moment, even as the lighting conditions changed.
Finally, the terrain is often rugged, and the wind can be intense, especially at 5,000 meters on the side of a volcano. In such conditions, stabilization was essential, enabling us to capture sharp images even at high focal lengths, despite the challenging environment.
It was equally valuable in low light conditions, like in the rainforest, where it helped us maintain optimal image quality without having to raise the shutter speed or push the ISO too high.
We’re now considering traveling with just this lens, along with the Tamron 17-28mm, to cover a wide range of scenarios without the extra weight.

Finally, what advice would you give to new travel photographers and content creators who want to equip themselves and share their images?
We would tell them to focus on simplicity and versatility. There’s no need to weigh yourself down with too much equipment. There’s more to travel photography than just equipment or technique. Above all, travel is about discovery—not just of new landscapes and cultures, but of yourself as well. Our advice would be to focus on authenticity: capture what truly moves and inspires you, instead of just following trends. Be patient, take the time to observe, because the magic of travel is often found in the smallest details.

About the authors: DesFenetresSurLeMonde.com
Eric and Joana, creators of the blog DesFenêtresSurLeMonde.com, have been traveling the world since 2015, combining a passion for travel and a love of photography. At each destination, their images capture unique landscapes, moments of life and unique environments, reflecting their sensitive and immersive approach to photography. For them, each shot is a way to experience the moment fully, to observe in depth, and to tell a story through the image. Their photography equipment plays a key role in this approach. They use several Tamron lenses, including the 28-75mm F/2.8 for its versatility, the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 for distant scenes, and the 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6, which strikes a perfect balance between quality and compact. Like the 28-300mm, the 28-200mm allows them to travel light, while providing them with a large focal length range for unplanned shots, from majestic landscapes to spontaneous portraits. This flexibility helps them capture both the grandeur and the details without weighing down their bags. Their approach is to preserve the authenticity of their journey while keeping their gear light for greater freedom of movement.
