The 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (Model A067) is a groundbreaking ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, offering an 8x zoom range from 50mm to 400mm with a zoom ring rotation arc of just 75°. This versatility makes it suitable for portraits, wildlife, and sports photography. It achieves high image quality through the use of special optical elements, including two XLD and three LD elements, a GM lens, and a hybrid asphere. Despite its performance, the lens remains compact and lightweight at just 183.4 mm (7.2″) long and weighing 1,155g (40.7oz) for Sony mount and 185.8 mm (7.3″) long and weighing 1,180g (41.6oz) for Nikon. The 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 is perfect for outdoor photography, providing brilliant images across a wide range of subjects with a single lens.

One of the greatest features of the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is its dramatically broad range of focal lengths which covers standard to ultra-telephoto, delivering an 8x zoom ratio. With 50mm on the wide side, you can create images that capture both the subject and the background. The wide end is also extremely useful when shooting subjects that may continuously move closer and further away, such as when whale watching, shooting sports at the sidelines, and photographing animals in habitats. Users can enjoy shooting a vast variety of subjects from landscapes and wild birds to animals, sports and small groups. Despite its wide range and capabilities, the compact and lightweight zoom measures just 183.4mm (7.2″) and weighs 1,155g (40.7oz) for Sony. This makes the lens easy to handle, and also makes it useful in situations like air travel when you want to reduce the bulk you are carrying.

The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 was developed in pursuit of high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The optical construction features 24 elements in 18 groups. The generous and effective use of special lens elements, including XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), LD (Low Dispersion) and Hybrid Aspherical lens elements thoroughly controls aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 also features BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating that minimizes ghosting and flare and expresses the minute details of subjects even under backlit conditions. Enjoy clear and sharp resolution to the edges of the frame, plus the soft, beautiful bokeh effects of the type that only an ultra-telephoto can create.
High-speed, high-precision AF means you’ll never miss another photo opportunity
The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 utilizes the renowned VXD linear motor focus mechanism. This advanced AF mechanism combines class-leading speed and precision, enabling fast and accurate focusing from MOD through to infinity. Excellent focus tracking performance of moving objects makes it possible to capture sharp images even when shooting wild birds and fast sports action.
TAMRON's proprietary VC takes the shakes out of handheld shooting
The lens is equipped with TAMRON’s proprietary VC mechanism, and effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce fuzzy pictures when shooting handheld in low-light conditions or at slower shutter speeds. Furthermore, using AI technologies, the lens chooses the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography at focal lengths of 100mm or less.
Half-macro photography with 1:2 magnification ratio at the 50mm to 70mm focal length
The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 is capable of extremely high performance when shooting close-ups, particularly for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens. Users can enjoy maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 with an MOD of 0.25m (9.8″) at 50mm and 0.27m (10.6″) at 70mm. At the 400mm telephoto end the MOD is 1.5m (59.1″), providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4. The unprecedented level of freedom in shooting reveals the charm of subjects more than ever, and provides flexible shooting options previously unseen in ultra-telephoto zooms.
Focus Limiter” function that limits the AF focus search range has been added to the TAMRON Lens Utility
The dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software (for PC/for devices with Android™[1] OS) developed in-house by TAMRON is compatible with the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3[2]. Users can customize the functions and easily update the firmware[3] through the lens, and by using the Mobile version, Focus Preset and A-B Focus can be operated remotely without touching the lens. Additionally, with the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 you can select the “Focus Limiter” function that allows you to limit the focus search range of the AF. This function shortens the time taken to refocus when a subject slips out of focus and prevents focusing on obstacles in front of a subject. The function can be instantly toggled using the Focus Set Button, ensuring that you never miss an unexpected photo opportunity. The TAMRON Lens Utility can be used to customize functions based on various shooting styles for both still photography and video, thereby providing a more fulfilling shooting experience.

Zoom Ring, Focus Ring
Grip texture has been improved by redesigning the striped pattern on the rubber focusing and zoom rings. Certain internal parts have also been enhanced. These advancements result in smoother overall operability. TAMRON has also adjusted the stiffness and torque of the zoom ring to facilitate smoother and more precise operation.

New Sculpted Shape
The diameters of the zoom ring and focus ring have been enlarged, and the body areas around them have been slimmed down to give the lens a contoured profile that makes it easier to grip. This creates a comfortable, uneven shape that fits snugly and naturally in the hand.
Deep, Luxurious Black Exterior Finish
The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, much glossier than previous models. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints.
Brand Ring

The 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 VC VXD has a switch that can lock the zoom ring at the 50mm focal length if desired. This prevents the unwanted extension of the lens barrel due to the weight of the lens during transportation.
For greater protection when shooting outdoors, leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel help protect your equipment. The Connector Port is the water-proofed USB Type-C variety.
The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellent. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.
