The 35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD (Model A058) has earned strong praise as a high-end portrait and creator's dream zoom. While highly acclaimed for its imaging performance, some have wished for a lighter, more compact option. Developed in response to user demand, the 35-100mm F2.8 focuses on the most essential portrait focal lengths. Despite its fast F2.8 aperture, it achieves a remarkably compact and lightweight design at just 119.2mm (4.7”) and 565g (19.9oz) for Sony E-mount model.
Delivering high image quality and soft bokeh, it’s perfect for candid portraits and travel photography. The VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor provides fast, precise AF to capture natural expressions, and the 0.22m (8.7”) MOD at the wide end is ideal for tabletop shots. The TAMRON Lens Utility™ allows users to assign functions for video and stills, while the refined design ensures comfortable handling for everyday and special moments.

Covering from semi wide-angle to medium telephoto, the lens offers the flexibility to shoot everything from wide compositions that make use of the background to head-and-shoulders portraits that capture the subject’s expression.

Following feedback on the 35-150mm F2-2.8, the 35-100mm F2.8 was designed with portability as the top priority. Measuring just 119.2mm (4.7”) long and weighing 565g (19.9oz),* it achieves exceptional compactness. This was accomplished through a multifaceted approach: optimizing the switch section and internal structure, refining component shapes, carefully reviewing the optical design, all while ensuring high rigidity. With its unique focal length of 35-100mm and the bright constant aperture F2.8, the lens combines portability with reliability making it perfect for everything from candid portraits to travel snapshots. Additionally, the minimized barrel extension stabilizes the center of gravity during zooming, ensuring steady operation for handheld shooting and gimbal-mounted video work.

High Resolution and Rich Bokeh — Rendering Skin Texture with Clarity
Despite its compact size, the 35-100mm F2.8 achieves clear, detailed images. The optical design, with 15 elements in 13 groups, includes one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), two LD (Low Dispersion), and three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements. These suppress various aberrations, including chromatic aberration, delivering high resolving power throughout the zoom range. Furthermore, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating minimizes ghosting and flare even in backlit conditions. Combined with the soft bokeh from the F2.8 aperture, this lens renders portraits and travel scenes with stunning clarity.

Equipped with TAMRON’s fastest, most precise VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, the 35-100mm F2.8 captures natural expressions with ease, whether for candid family portraits or travel snapshots. Its excellent tracking performance is suitable even for the unpredictable movements of children. Additionally, its quiet operation is ideal for both stills and video in noise-sensitive environments.

With an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.22m (8.7”) at the wide end (maximum magnification ratio 1:3.3), this lens allows you to get close to your subject. Ideal for nature close-ups as well as tabletop photography in cafes and indoor spaces, it transforms everyday scenes into artistic images, enhanced by the F2.8 aperture’s bokeh.
Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ Application
The 35-100mm F2.8 is compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ software, the dedicated application available in Mobile versions for iOS ¹ and Android™ OS ² and also for Mac/PC desktop/laptops ³. Without needing special video or photo equipment, users can assign practical functions ⁴ to the lens, enhancing the shooting experience. Firmware updates are available via the PC version ⁵.

Our engineers refined every structural detail to enhance usability and ergonomics. The lens exterior has a glossy black finish with improved abrasion resistance to reduce scratches and fingerprints. Zoom Ring, Focus Ring
Grip texture has been improved by redesigning the striped pattern on the rubber focusing and zoom rings. Certain internal parts have also been enhanced. These advancements result in smoother overall operability. TAMRON has also adjusted the stiffness and torque of the zoom ring to facilitate smoother and more precise operation.

New Sculpted Shape
The diameters of the zoom ring and focus ring have been enlarged, and the body areas around them have been slimmed down to give the lens a contoured profile that makes it easier to grip. This creates a comfortable, uneven shape that fits snugly and naturally in the hand.
Deep, Luxurious Black Exterior Finish
The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, much glossier than previous models. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints.
Brand Ring
The “”brand ring”” on the lens mount is a sign of trust with the user, and the smooth curved surface and glossy surface treatment give the camera a unique and dignified appearance that is pleasing to both the eye and the hand.

TAMRON has long been an innovator of coating technologies that prevent ghosting and flare. Second-generation BBAR-G2 Coating is a groundbreaking advancement that provides vastly improved performance compared to the original BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating. The coating corrects for ghosting and flare to an unprecedented extent and renders fine subject detail with true clarity and stunning contrast even under backlit conditions.
The 35-100mm F2.8 has a switch that can lock the zoom ring at the 35mm focal length if desired. This prevents the unwanted extension of the lens barrel due to the weight of the lens during transportation.
For greater protection when shooting outdoors, leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel help protect your equipment. The Connector Port is the water-proofed USB Type-C variety.
The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellent. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.
