Sharp, quiet, and small, this zoom is extraordinarily versatile and perfect for everyday photography. It’s the world's first 17-70mm F2.8 standard zoom lens with a 4.1x zoom ratio for APS-C cameras.
The lens was created to achieve a broad zoom range with excellent image quality. It’s lightweight and compact, even with VC image stabilization and a host of other user-friendly features. In your everyday life and on your trips to distant places, this lens captures all the excitement and discoveries with the finest possible detail.
Constant F2.8 Aperture - Beautiful Bokeh and Exquisite Detail
The 17-70mm F2.8 VC maintains its fast F2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range, ensuring optimal image quality even in dimly lit scenes. The lens’s optical construction consists of 16 elements in 12 groups. By effectively incorporating two LD (Low Dispersion), two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical), and one hybrid aspherical lens elements, the 17-70mm F2.8 VC achieves high resolution and high contrast not only in the center of the image but also in corners and at the edges. The lens successfully combines sharp expression that clearly captures subject details with the beautiful, soft bokeh needed to make the main subject stand out.

Built-In VC — Achieves Stable Shooting for Stills and Video
To maximize the lens’s inherent high optical performance, the 17-70mm F2.8 VC is equipped with TAMRON’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism. The VC effectively mitigates image degradation caused by camera shake — which commonly occurs during hand-held shooting at slow shutter speeds, for instance indoors, at twilight, or when capturing nightscapes. When shooting video, image stabilization automatically provides optimal compensation for a wide range of shooting situations.
High Performance AF — Fast, Quiet, and Ready to Capture Decisive Moments
The AF system is equipped with TAMRON’s proprietary RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive). RXD uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear. A sensor that precisely detects the position of the lens provides high-speed and accurate AF, which is crucial when shooting moving subjects. Furthermore, the system boasts excellent quietness, making it ideal for still photography in silent environments and for video shooting with audio capture where operational noise is objectionable.
* With the 17-70mm F2.8 VC for CANON RF and Nikon Z mounts, the autofocus may become less responsive when tracking subjects during zooming in video shooting.

The 17-70mm F2.8 VC is engineered to suppress focus breathing — the phenomenon where the angle of view changes as the focus position is shifted — allowing for natural and seamless video shooting even in scenes that require focus changes. Furthermore, the 17-70mm F2.8 VC is built to support stable, authentic video shooting in a variety of scenes, incorporating VC specifically optimized for video shooting, and utilizing an extremely quiet AF system, two features that make it highly suitable for both hand-held shooting and scenes involving audio recording.
MOD Of 7.5" (0.19m) For Amazing Close-Ups
The 17-70mm F2.8 VC provides exceptional close-up shooting performance for a fast-aperture standard zoom lens, with an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 7.5in (0.19m) at the wide end and 15.4in (0.39m) at the telephoto end. This capability allows you to capture subjects at short distances and expands your creative expression — whether by creating greatly blurred backgrounds or by highlighting intricate details. The 17-70mm F2.8 VC excels in a wide range of scenarios, from daily use like tabletop photography and candid family snaps, to advanced portrait work.

Designed specifically for APS-C size cameras, the 17-70mm F2.8 VC relentlessly pursues mobility. AF/MF Switch and VC ON/OFF Switch for CANON RF Mount
The 17-70mm F2.8 VC for CANON RF mount is equipped with both an AF/MF and a VC ON/OFF switches. These are convenient when precise focusing is required for close-up shots like flowers or tabletop photography, or when quickly switching between hand-held and tripod-mounted shooting for scenes such as nightscapes and landscapes.
Firmware Updates via TAMRON Lens Utility for Nikon Z and CANON RF Mounts
For the Nikon Z and CANON RF mount versions, the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility application lets you update your lens to the latest firmware, at any time, without employing the camera.* The Firmware Information screen indicates the version of your lens, so if newer firmware is available, you can proceed with the update.
* Lens firmware updates are not supported by the Mobile version. Firmware updates require the TAMRON Lens Utility for PC.
Unified 67mm Filter Size
Most TAMRON mirrorless lenses feature a 67mm filter size, allowing shared use of expensive PL or ND filters and eliminating the hassle of switching lens caps. All lenses are compact, lightweight and extremely portable, so it’s easy to carry several on an outing.

The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellent. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.
